“best view ever”

so another fanexpo has come and gone, and after years of thinking about getting a table at artist alley, i finally snag some space with the awesome rosemary, rey, craig, alexei, and jesse. the show itself was much like how it’s been over the years that i’ve attended as a fan, but there were new stuff too. namely the inclusion of a food court and the hosting of a gaming tournament… a tournament that included guitar hero. guitar hero! we really wanted to pay… ahem… all in all though, the con was as loud, busy, fascinating, and… um… distinctive as cons can be. but being an “exhibitor” in artist alley made this year’s con an adventure in learning. the only thing that sucked was that i didnt take many pictures. as in the two in this post are all i took. crud. oh well, i still got us at the table (although, sadly sans alexei and jesse) and the usual “stormtroopers at a con shot” – a shot that is not the source of this post’s title. that comes from a comment i made to rey about his audience. i’d say more but i think i’ll let him talk about it in his blog.

back

well, i’m back in toronto… since yesterday actually, but i was too tired from the trip and the whole unpacking thing to post. seriously. there’s photographic proof of me zonked out on my bed to prove it. a photo that was taken by either my brother or sister – i’m not sure who did it yet because no one’s talking.

but enough about that, let me give you a couple of highlights.

first: i got to play with the iphone! need i say more? it really sucks that it’s not available in canada yet…

second: the fecal face show was awesome. it just sucks that i couldn’t stay until tessar showed up. i mean, we (the family) had to catch the 8:20 caltrain back to santa clara, which was the 2nd to last train (the last being at 10something)…

third: for the first time since i was a kid in the philippines, i got to meet the oldest of the first-gen giongco cousins (does that make sense?) i guess “the oldest of the giongco grandkids” is easier to understand. why is it such a big deal? well, he’s a couple of months older than my mom, who is the youngest of the giongco kids!

fourth: the loot. well, the important loot anyway since there was a bit of mandatory clothes shopping and some more dragonlance novels that i bought…

down at the bay

so… we didn’t end up going straight to sacramento after hanging around LA. my parents changed their minds (again) and now thats the last stop of our great family tour. but thats all good. i got to hang around the bay area earlier.

my thoughts on the City? love at first sight. if san francisco was a woman, she’d be oh-so-cute and so very charming. i wish i could stay longer to really soak in the city.

*insert certain burger chain theme song here*

i gotta say, i’m loving the west coast right now. los angeles, anahiem, and san jose are so different from what i’ve gotten used to up in toronto. next up in the great “meet family that you havn’t seen in over 10 years” expedition tour of southern california is sacramento before finally settling over at san fransisco for the 2nd half of the family vaca.

ahem. first things first.

i was geekily cheering through practically the whole thing. seriously. ask my sister. she kept telling me to shut up through practically the whole thing.

and oh, looks like i’m being somewhat productive with personal work.

between being forced into becoming the family vacation planner, my 60 min exercises, attempting to write up a cohesive graphic novel and trying to clean up after my brother and sister, i managed to squeeze out a big piece for myself. now the only problem is the task of scanning the sucker so i can color it. the mere thought of scanning this 4 times and piecing it together in photoshop makes me lazy.

huh. i changed the layout again. i dont know why. i guess this time it was cuz i was sleepy and just downright bored. ill post some sketchbook stuff later – i still have this paper to finish (2 more pages to go!)

maybe this whole layout changing quirk of mine will become a monthly routine?

well, actually no. i was already happy with what i hadbefore but one of the images from the previous post was getting cut off on the right so i figured it’s either resize the image or manipulate the css div settings and make it wider. i went for the 3rd option of changing layouts entirely.

what can i say? call me fickle.

yeah, my humor is all but dry now. i guess i havn’t really recovered from being sick for the last couple of weeks, and i still don’t know what was wrong with me.
